The Staten Island community is mourning the loss of Leo DuVal, a respected domestic violence attorney, former Wagner College baseball standout, and beloved friend to many, who passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 67.
A lifelong Staten Island resident, DuVal dedicated nearly four decades to practicing law, earning a reputation as a compassionate advocate for individuals and families facing difficult legal challenges. Operating his practice on Annadale Road, he specialized in domestic violence and family law, becoming a trusted legal voice known for his integrity, practical guidance, and unwavering commitment to his clients.
Before embarking on his legal career, DuVal made his mark on the baseball field as a member of the 1981 Wagner College baseball team. He helped the Seahawks pursue an NCAA playoff berth and was remembered by teammates for delivering a crucial save against NY Tech during the regular season. Beyond his athletic contributions, he became known as the heart of the clubhouse, entertaining teammates with his memorable Rodney Dangerfield impressions and keeping spirits high during road trips.
His passion for sports continued long after college through years of participation in the Firehose Softball League and local Saturday football games, where he built lifelong friendships.
