The communities of Slatington and Allentown, Pennsylvania, are mourning the tragic loss of Kandi Jo Heller, 44, who died from injuries sustained in a devastating two-vehicle crash on Wednesday afternoon. Her unexpected passing has left family, friends, and loved ones heartbroken as they remember a life cut tragically short.
According to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office & Forensic Center, the collision occurred at approximately 1:06 p.m. at the intersection of North 6th Street and Cedar Street in Allentown. Authorities identified Heller as the victim who later succumbed to her injuries after being transported to the hospital.
Pennsylvania State Police reported that a 2015 Chevrolet Suburban, allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed, failed to stop at a posted stop sign before colliding with the Mercedes-Benz in which Heller was riding. The force of the impact pushed the Mercedes into a nearby residence, causing extensive damage and leaving both occupants seriously injured.
Investigators stated that the driver of the Chevrolet fled the scene on foot immediately after the crash but was later located, apprehended, and taken into custody. Authorities have indicated that criminal charges are expected as the investigation progresses.
Despite the efforts of emergency responders and medical personnel, Heller died from her injuries at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Muhlenberg at 9:58 p.m. that evening. An autopsy determined that she died from blunt force injuries, and the Lehigh County Coroner ruled her death accidental.
